When getBoxxd Self Storage needed to expand capacity at their Warrington site, the available space came with some daunting challenges. The only access route was under a low bridge, alongside a live railway line, and beneath overhead powerlines- conditions that made the job impossible for standard container delivery vehicles.

The Challenge

The chosen yard space was ideal for storage, but accessing it safely was another matter entirely. Key obstacles included:

  • Low bridge clearance that restricted vehicle height.
  • Live railway line running parallel to the site, demanding extra care and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Overhead powerlines, adding another layer of risk to manoeuvring and placing containers.
  • Uneven ground on-site, meaning every unit needed careful levelling.

Standard hauliers couldn’t safely deliver in these conditions, but getBoxxd needed a solution that would make the most of the space without compromising safety.

Our Solution

We met the haulier off-site and transferred the containers onto our specialist Container Mover which is purpose built for navigating access-restricted areas. With our low-profile equipment, we were able to pass under the bridge with room to spare while maintaining safe clearance from the powerlines.

Once inside the yard, our team positioned each of the 20 containers precisely where needed. We then used toe jacks and blocks to level every unit, compensating for the uneven ground and ensuring doors operated smoothly.

Given the proximity to the railway and overhead services, site safety was our top priority. We coordinated closely with getBoxxd staff to maintain strict safety zones and minimise disruption to their operations.

The Results

The once underused yard space is now a fully functional, high-capacity storage area, with 20 secure containers ready for customers. This installation not only increased getBoxxd’s available units but also demonstrated that challenging access doesn’t have to mean compromised plans.

Why it matters

Many storage operators have unused areas that are dismissed because they appear too difficult (or too risky) to access. This project proves that, with the right equipment and expertise, those spaces can be transformed into revenue-generating assets.
